Surrounded by Sheep

I’m going to keep this short because I’m swamped with life right now, but I just have to get off my chest how terrifying it has become to be surrounded by sheep.  Exodus 23:2 says, “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.”  Everywhere I turn, I see people blindly following the masses.

Historically, people exhibiting blind obedience has generally not bode well.  Look at the Holocaust, for example.  Hitler was a hero to his followers, largely because of his propaganda in winning over the masses through his self-proclaimed victories and accomplishments.

Does this tactic sound familiar to you?  It sure does to me.

Okay, that’s enough examples.  I think you get the point – Narcissism at its finest.

According to Barbara Kellerman, professor of Public Leadership at Harvard, there are several characteristics of a bad leader:

  • Incompetence
  • Rigidity
  • Uncontrolled, volatile behavior
  • Callousness toward others
  • Corruption
  • Insular behavior
  • Destructive actions intended to harm

Before I discuss these traits, I want to stop to tell you I am a Conservative.  Our POTUS is a Conservative, as well.  However, despite that fact, there is no reason I must support him and his words and actions.  In fact, I will not.  I can and will not support the ignorance and hate being spewed by our POTUS.  I will no longer sit in silence while he tears apart the greatest country in the world.  Differences in political decisions are one thing.  Differences in moral decisions are another.  Trump’s moral failures have overshadowed his political victories.  Our POTUS demonstrates a gross lack of morality and sound judgment.  That is what I cannot blindly support simply because I share the same political party.

The above characteristics of a bad leader are clearly demonstrated by Trump.  Let’s look at just a few examples of them in more depth.

INCOMPETENCE:

Incompetence is defined as “not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully.”  Trump has displayed enough incompetence that there is now more inter-party opposition to him than there has been since World War II.  During a time when unity is crucial, the POTUS is severely polarizing the Republican party and, on a larger scale, the nation.  Nearly 15 employees of Trump’s administration have already either been fired or have quit, largely as a result of their refusal to blindly follow his orders.

Trump’s incompetency is further evident in his aides’ lack of confidence in his abilities to handle his role as POTUS.  It has been shared that his senior advisers worry about leaving him alone in meetings with world leaders because they’re afraid of what he might say.  Gee, you mean like calling them names or further alienating the U.S.?

RIGIDITY:

Even if you argue that Trump is, in fact, competent to lead the free world, it is nearly impossible to argue that he is not rigid.  He is unwilling to adapt new ideas or even simply perceive a situation from another’s viewpoint.  Most people merely want to be heard.  They just want someone to listen to their concerns on social injustice, among other issues.  Instead, the POTUS is becoming quite the fascist dictator, consistently using threats and intimidation to get his way.  Rather than immediately dismissing those with whom he disagrees, perhaps he should listen to them first.  All effective leaders encourage open discussion and explore potential solutions to conflicts.  After all, we Americans do have the right to free speech and free press, correct?

UNCONTROLLED, VOLATILE BEHAVIOR:

Oh boy, where should we start here?  Trump’s entire election and presidency is riddled with examples of his lack of self-control.  One needs only to open the POTUS’s Twitter account to realize he’s coming unglued.  We are literally on the brink of war with a psycho-led country, but Trump is too busy bashing anyone and everyone who disagrees with him to take proper action in keeping our country safe.

CALLOUSNESS TOWARD OTHERS:

Again, one needs only turn to Trump’s social media accounts to notice his rude, “unpresidential” attitude and behavior toward others.

INSULAR BEHAVIOR:

Trump’s isolation is growing rapidly.  Former colleagues and, arguably, friends of the POTUS are increasingly denouncing their support for him.  For example, Tim Scott discussed how Trump’s moral authority was compromised when Trump discussed the “very fine” white supremacist Charlottesville protesters, saying both alt-left and white supremacists were to blame for the violence there.  Thankfully, unlike the mass of sheep who refuse to stand up for what is morally right, Scott insisted he could not “defend the indefensible.”  Similarly, James Murdoch, one of the POTUS’s close advisers, denounced Trump’s reaction to the protests, appalled he even had to write such an email.  He even had enough sense to state that “Democrats, Republicans, and others must all agree [that there are no good Nazis].”

Trump is isolating himself through his ignorance and inability to be quiet.  I am thankful for the few brave souls who have dared to stand up for their beliefs, rather than continue to follow an unethical and ignorant leader to imminent failure.

It bears repeating that I’m a conservative, but I have to draw the line somewhere!  I understand the importance of supporting our POTUS, but at what cost?  Isn’t our country – the greatest in the world – already filled with enough hate and oppression?  How could I possibly support the most powerful man in the world in spreading more vitriol and hatred through ignorant and disrespectful comments and put-downs?

One of the greatest things about being an American is having freedom.  I can voice my opinions without fear of retribution or punishment.  This is exactly what Eminem did last night, and for that, I applaud him.  He acted in a non-violent manner, through his form of artistic expression, to show that he will not be a sheep.  Does this mean neither of us loves America?  Absolutely not.  I love my country; however, it can no longer be denied that President Trump is toxic.  He is tearing our great country apart through hatred and division.  I will not allow myself to fall victim to his systematic plan to obtain power.  I will not deny the existence of racism and other forms of social injustice.  Rather, I will rise up and fight these injustices with love and unity.  I will fight for those things worth fighting for.  I would rather walk alone in the name of justice than be a sheep following the crowd to a life where injustice, corruption, and inequality are accepted.  Wake up, people.  Don’t be sheep.

“If a country has a fascist leader, this is a great horror for that country; but there is much greater horror: The existence of ignorant and unethical masses who support that primitive leader!” – Mehmet Murat Ildan

I’m a Racist, Hateful, Rich White Girl

Wait, what?  Are you really a racist, hateful, rich white girl, Alicia?  No.  No, I am not.  I am not racist (I have kids with a black guy *gasp*) or hateful, and I sure as heck am not rich.  The only one of those things I am is white.  And that was not by choice.  That’s how God decided to design me.

But wait, I mean, I must be racist since I didn’t vote for Killary Hillary, right?  Oh, and I must hate gay people too, right?  The recent accusations of many Liberals that anyone who didn’t vote for Hillary must be racist and hateful have baffled me.  So, I posed a question on Facebook:

Can someone tell me why white people are being “blamed” for Trump’s victory and not Hillary for not running an effective campaign or being honest with the American people?

I’m asking genuinely. I didn’t support Hillary, but I’m far from racist, so I’m wondering how it is that I must be racist since I didn’t vote for Hillary.

I was not trying to start arguments or spread hate.  I genuinely would like to know the answer to this question.  And notice that I didn’t say “those who support Trump.”  I said “those who do not support Hillary.”  I meant to word my question that way.  I am the first person who will say I am not a HUGE fan of Trump.  (See what I did there?!)  But, I do believe he is the better option than Hillary.

I received comments that those who didn’t support Hillary are spreading and endorsing hate.  Excuse me, but isn’t it the Hillary-supporting Liberals who are trashing the streets of New York and Oakland?  Aren’t they the ones spewing hatred when they’re not curled up in fetal positions refusing to take midterms?

I’ve heard those who don’t support Hillary must hate gay people since Trump and Pence don’t support the LGBTQ legislation.  If I’m not mistaken (and I’m not), it was Hillary who stated, “I believe that marriage is not just a bond, but a sacred bond between a man and a woman.”  Do people really believe she now supports gay marriage, or could it be a possibility that she knew what the general public wanted to hear leading up to an election year?

Gay marriage is now already legal.  Do Liberals truly believe Trump will overturn same-sex marriage legislation?  And why aren’t the 13 previous Democratic Presidents being blamed for hating the LGBTQ population?  They didn’t enact same-sex marriage legislation.

I’ve also heard that those who don’t support Hillary must be racist against African-Americans and Hispanics.  But it was Hillary who said, “We’ve got to do several things and I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants.”

Why?  Because Republican Trump supporters didn’t vote for Obama simply because he’s black?  Because Trump wants to help our own citizens who need help before supporting an entire population of illegal immigrants or refugees?  How many of you who believe that actually do anything to help our own American homeless population?

crickets

And what if I told you there are actually brilliant black politicians who don’t support Hillary and didn’t support Obama?  *Gasp.*  Are they racist, too?  Nope.  Perhaps they just know what America can handle and what’s too much.

What else have I heard from Liberals about not supporting Hillary?  Let’s see . . . Oh, I must be a hateful person since I support someone who has a vile mouth.  Umm, have y’all heard the things that come out of Hillary’s mouth?  She is just as vile.  Does that mean her supporters spread hatred because of the things she chooses to say?  Here, wait.  Let me give you some examples:

“f*cking Jew bastard”

“When are they going to get those f*cking retards out of here?”

“Just do your GD job, and keep your mouth shut.”  [She didn’t say GD, by the way.]

“These women are trash; who will believe them?”

“I want you to get rid of all these b*tches he’s seeing.”

Is Hillary better than Trump?  Not at all.  In fact, she’s worse, and I’ll tell you why.  She tries to be sneaky about her nasty words.  She doesn’t realize people can hear her; therefore, she thinks it’s okay to run her vile mouth and call Trump out on his.  Even the Bible says “for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).  Hillary thinks she’s slick.  She is sneaky and conniving.  I can’t help but wonder if Hillary supporters don’t look at both sides of the coin simply because she’s a woman.  Is Trump just vile because he’s a man, and men are pigs?  Should a disgusting woman get a free pass because that’s what Liberals, as a whole, like to do – give free passes?  Give me a break.

Maybe I didn’t support Hillary because I don’t agree with her on the important issues.  Have you ever thought of that?  Maybe I don’t agree with abortions.  Or her stance on foreign policy.  Or taxes and health care.  Her stance on national security scares the crap out of me.  Maybe those are the reasons people didn’t support her.  Not because we don’t like African-Americans, Hispanics, or women.

Also, I would be remiss not to mention the role the DNC and the Democratic Party supporters themselves have played in Hillary’s loss.  It’s not just us “white people” who are to blame for Trump’s win.  It’s you Liberals who assisted in Bernie Sanders’ loss to Hillary in the primary.  I honestly believe he could have – and would have – beat Trump.  No one likes a liar and murderer under investigation by the FBI.  We white Republicans didn’t vote Hillary into the election.  You Democrats did.

Another reason Trump was more attractive than Hillary is the simple fact that he’s not a politician.  He doesn’t say things just because he knows people want to hear them.  You know . . . like Hillary does.  As I said in my Facebook post this morning, everyone says they hate politicians, yet when we have someone running for office who isn’t the typical politician, saying all things politicians are supposed to say, Liberals get bent out of shape and riot, complain, and call people names.  I don’t get it.  It’s a no-win situation.

We can’t vote on the issues we feel important and with the hope of ridding our country of the crooked politicians we’ve dealt with in the past without being accused of being racist, misogynistic, or hateful.  Yet we’re the ones being portrayed as the bullies?  It doesn’t make sense.  We didn’t parade around, creating hashtags like #notmypresident when Obama won.  We didn’t cause nearly the amount of discord back in 2008 or 2012 as the very name-callers are in the aftermath of this election.  They yell and preach unity, yet they are the very ones causing greater divide.  Not supporting Hillary doesn’t mean we’re racist or hateful.  It means we’re not supporting someone with just as many faults as the opponent she loves to bash.  It means we are supporting the issues in which we believe . . . like social, financial, and security issues.

We don’t have to agree to love.  Just ask my husband – He’s a Red Sux fan.  [Barf.]  Hate is easy.  Love takes courage.  Be courageous.  Stop picking fights and calling names.  Stop making excuses.  Unity is what makes America the best country in the world.  Step up, and be the example – not the problem.
